Don’t be a victim!
Can Self-Defense Lessons Save Women During An Attack?, pt 2
Have you worried about what would happen if you were attacked? How could you prevent being a victim?
This is the second of 4 articles on Self-Defense. Remember the seven principles to keep in mind:
Seven A’s:
Advanced preparation
Awareness of surroundings
Avoid the Area
Assault and Abduction
Aggressive Action
Avenue of escape
Anticipate the Aftermath
Avoid the Area- You know the areas in your town where there is a greater risk of being robbed or assaulted. If you don’t, phone your local police department and ask where the greatest crime rates are. True, trouble can happen anywhere, but it simply happens more often in certain areas. Avoid those areas whenever possible; if you must go there, be on Red Alert, take someone responsible with you, and carry some kind of weapon in your hand while you are there, even if it’s just a ballpoint pen. You can carry a pen anywhere.
Assault and Abduction- There are differences between an assault from an angry boyfriend or jealous neighbor, and an abduction by a stranger to kidnap or rape you. The type of situation affects the response you must use to stop the attack and escape. An assault by someone you know is more motivated against you personally; the abduction can be deterred by convincing the attacker that you are not the easy target he thought you were.
